Something came up in my mind first thing this morning. I admire someone, whom I know, who is somewhat like Martha Stewart based on taking good care of her home and yard. I was invited to her BBQ party at her such a lovely home located in Seattle last summer. Several different dishes were so delicious. This is the reason why she reminds me like Martha Stewart. An expert at taking care of her home, yard, and cooking.
Interior of her home was clean, and well organized with extraordinary Laura Ashley style and color scheme of interior design.
And her yard was well tended with well trimmed and edged lawn with sections of colorful flowers and plants.
I am aware that she does not do those projects all by herself since she lives with her loved one. Obviously they work together as a team to design their lovely home and yard.
Here's a great quote, which Iyanla Vanzant shared via Facebook this morning. She is a close friend of Oprah Winfrey. This quote states:
"There is no way goodness, abundance and success can come to you if your affairs are not in order. Abundance is a direct reflection of your preparation to live abundantly."
There is absolutely no way for me to compare with that lady since I have Nolan living with me. And it is really tough as a single mother to do and to accomplish at home and in the yard. He is still learning and picking a little by little daily.
And it is a challenge since I feel like my mind is going into many different directions. Sometimes I get to finish tasks. At the same time, I sometimes keep postponing.
And it is a challenge since I sometimes have motivation on and off. I often feel overwhelmed due to numerous of tasks I need to do.
At the beginning of this year, I read and completed a great book entitled The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up written by Marie Kondo. It was a great book!
At first, I was going to purge and organize each rooms. After I read that book, she highly recommend to go through each categories instead of rooms starting with clothes, books, and papers. Lastly, sentimental value such as special objects, photos, postcards, which you cherish.
Here's the first article entitled 8 Lessons Our Editor Learned from the Decluttering Bible written by Cate La Farge Summers. It includes 8 steps of how you can go through by purging and organizing each clothings. The first rule of all is to touch each article to see how you feel. If you feel you cherish and love that article, then you keep it. If you feel blah then get rid of it.
As I mentioned before that I often feel overwhelmed, here's another post entitled Go Ahead. Start Decluttering with the Easiest Step, which gives you an analogy between how to do decluttering in step by step vs practicing by increasing numbers of miles in preparation for marathon.
At nearly end of that book - The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, Marie Kondo shared a way of thinking of how to fold and to store a variety of clothing in the drawer. Think of being grateful of how each items such as socks, clothings, home, and a cup of tea serve you to your satisfaction. Here's an article entitled Gurus: Marie Kondo Will Change Your Life or At Least your Living Space written by Molly Young.
Actually I never thought of how I can be grateful of each items, which I use daily. Of course I keep counting blessings daily based on what I have.
In addition, I admit that once in a while I compared my home with my friends' home based on their cleanliness and interior design. At the same time, I learn to be grateful based on what kind of home we currently live in.
So, the fourth article entitled 5 Ways to Love the Home You Have! It offers a few different ways of thinking such as it doesn't have to be expensive to make some changes and update something in the home to make it look such more lovely. It doesn't matter if your home is owned or rented.
The point is that it is not necessary to be in debt to create lovely atmosphere in homes. Just do your best to put some of money set aside, so that way you can do some remodeling in particular areas of your home.
At last, here's an article entitled The Psychological Benefits of 'Kondoing' Your House written by Lindsay Holmes. After you are complete by decluttering areas in your homes and keeping some objects such as furniture, pictures, whatever you name it, etc which bring you such a joy, which creates positive affect by mentally, emotionally, and psychically.
Speaking of Iyanla Vanzant's quote, it is a challenge for some of us, who constantly struggle by trying to keep our homes, yards, personal lives - whatever situations we live, and goals to achieve in order.
Best way is to continue to try our best by doing simple little steps to complete our tasks. At the same time, enjoy our lives. Rewards will come to us when time is right.
